چکیده
Trigeminal neuralgia is a facial pain syndrome that occurs repeatedly and chronically on one side of the face following distribution trigeminal nerve branches. estimated to be around 0.16%-0.3%, with an incidence rate 4-29 people per 100,000 people/year, higher in women than men (ratio 3:2). The increases age. causes are divided into two types, classic symptomatic. main mechanism compression by intracranial blood vessels which damage protective covering nerves or known as process demyelination. Treatment pharmacotherapy, non-pharmacotherapy, surgery should considered if treatment ineffective, preventive education.

Trigeminal Neuralgia - A review
Trigeminal neuralgia is a very peculiar disease. The pain of trigeminal neuralgia, also known as “tic douloureux”, is characterized by episodic, paroxysmal, triggered pain in a distribution of 1 or more divisions of the trigeminal nerve. TN pain attacks may result from physiologic changes induced by a chronic partial injury to the brainstem trigeminal nerve root from a variety of causes. An ear...
متن کاملReview on Trigeminal Neuralgia
Aim: To write a review on trigeminal neuralgia. Objective: To analyze the competence of the new trends over the old trends and decipher the advantages and disadvantages of both. Background: Trigeminal Neuralgia is a clinical syndrome characterized by brief, repetitive, extremely intense paroxysms of unilateral facial pain. The pain can be triggered by cutaneous stimuli including those resulting...
متن کاملPrevalence of trigeminal neuralgia: A systematic review.
BACKGROUND The aim of this systematic review was to answer the focused question, "What are the prevalence and the epidemiological characteristics of trigeminal neuralgia in the general population?" TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED This systematic review included observational population-based studies reporting the prevalence of trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The authors developed specific search strateg...
متن کاملPostherpetic Neuralgia and Trigeminal Neuralgia
Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is an unpredictable complication of varicella zoster virus- (VZV-) induced herpes zoster (HZ) which often occurs in elderly and immunocompromised persons and which can induce psychosocial dysfunction and can negatively impact on quality of life. Preventive options for PHN include vaccination of high-risk persons against HZ, early use of antiviral agents, and robust ...
متن کاملPain in trigeminal neuralgia: neurophysiology and measurement: a comprehensive review
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is defined as sudden, usually unilateral, severe, brief, stabbing recurrent episodes of pain within the distribution of one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve. It is the most frequent cranial neuralgia, the incidence being 1 per 1,000,00 persons per year. Pain attacks start abruptly and last several seconds but may persist 1 to 2 minutes. The attacks are initiate...
